Michelle is a New York based filmmaker, actor, and movement specialist. Her films have been shown at Slamdance Film Festival (Grand Jury Honorable Mention), SXSW, AFI Film Festival, New Orleans, PalmSpringsShortfest, Nashville Film Festival, Atlanta Film Festival, Flickers RIFF, as well as having work featured on Short of the Week, NoBudge, The Bureau of Creative Works, and the Slamdance Channel. In 2021, she was named among Filmmaker Magazine’s 25 New Faces of Independent film.

Her most recent film, CLARITIES, is a silent short film commissioned in partnership with Boykin Curry and exhibited at a private screening hosted by Isabella Rosellini at MAMA FARM. She is also currently in development on her feature film, SALES PER HOUR, which is an expansion of her short film which premiered at SXSW in 2021. The project is supported by Sundance Catalyst, the Gotham Film Market, and the Sundance Producer’s Lab. 

She received her acting training at the Meisner Studio at Tisch School of the Arts, NYU, and her movement training from Nathan Flower and Julia Crockett. Uranowitz now serves as an Instructor of Movement on the faculty at Tisch Open Arts Studio and HB Studio. She has also taught at The New School, The Terry Knickerbocker Studio, and the Maggie Flannigan Studio. 

Uranowitz teaches all level drop-in movement classes at 100 Grand in Soho, that are 90-minute group classes designed to help people build a rich physical vocabulary that strengthens their artistic instrument and empowers them to be more fearless, expansive, and playful in their creative work.
